Planning for Act III

Aka, the last three sessions of the campaign, XVI, XVII and XVIII. At presesnt, the PCs have yet to leave from the parking swarm, but do have an upgraded ship capable of breaking atmosphere.

The basic plan of events is:

  1. The PCs arrive at the new elven homeworld (New Sylvia), where they meet up with Rose, Eivor, and Hermia, and then have to raid the giant shardship in orbit for the materials to make a weave conduit which'll let them survive in the blacksphere.
  2. The PCs 'ride' the planet Xiaojin into the blacksphere in order to pursue Darius, who is there for some reason?
  3. The PCs confront and defeat Darius, which dispells the blacksphere.

Basically per session.

So, in detail:

Session XVI: New Sylvia

The PCs arrive at New Sylva, the new elven homeworld, somewhere out in the depths of the outer circles. It takes them a good couple of weeks to get out there.

Upon arrival, they are greeted by Eivor, the dragon half of the Rose/Eivor duo. He's ship-sized and a bit big to be hanging out in a city, so he just does a little talking before leading the Storm Chaser to the city. Upon breaking atmosphere, the PCs meet up with Rose and Hermia. They don't have much time to talk, as Rose has appraised Hermia of the plot basically and they need the Storm Chaser fitted out to enter the blacksphere.

This means the PCs have to raid the big shardship chilling in orbit for the materials. The shardship consists of a few prelimiary fights with some more or less unremarkable remnants and then a big fight with a corrupted kraken in a zero-gravity lake. The shardship has a number of environmental changes, in fact:

  • the whole thing is zero gravity. In practice, this means a few things:
    • If you are not within five feet of a fixed object, you can only keep moving at your current speed. You may choose at what point in this movement to do your action.
    • You can choose to stop if your movement passes within five feet of a fixed object.
    • If you are stationary and within five feet of a fixed object, you can push off, moving your current speed or lower per turn in a direction you choose.
  • The second-most arena is full of dense fog
  • The third-most arena used to be a small-ish park with a lake in the middle, the water of which is currently floating around, as is a corrupted kraken (which has no trouble moving around in zero g, or breathing outside water). The water is the cause of the fog in the previous area.
  • The walls and fixed objects (like pillars and whatnot) are all made of a magically reflective substance of some sort, meaning that ranged attacks and spells can be bounced off them. Shouldn't be of much consequence.

After the PCs defeat the kraken and retrieve the Macguffinite they need, the elves replace the barrel of their gun with it, rendering it a highly effective weave conduit, which'll allow them to survive for ~a month inside the blacksphere.

Session XVII: Xiaojin

The PCs (or Rose) deduce that the most likely location to find Darius next is Xiaojin, which by the time they get back will be juuust about to be the first inhabited planet swallowed. They're right, and Darius is there, chilling in orbit, watching Syndicate ships fight with Alliance enforcers.

This'll be phase one of the final battle, so to speak; the ship combat. The PCs can either dive into the massive battle between the Alliance and shardship-backed syndicate, or they can just ambush Darius. Despite their best efforts, the planet is about to get muched, and they need to not get obliterated. This can be achieved by:

  • Hiding inside a cavern in Xiaojin's moon (a phobos-type ugly moon).

After the fight, Darius Gateway's them to Nowhere, his one-time home planet, and monologues about his backstory or something.

Session XVIII: Nowhere

The phase two of the final battle, against Darius himself, now revealed to be Lancelot, heir to the Something empire. Really need to cook something more interesting than 'chucks two high-level spells at the PCs every turn'.
