A simple showcase of stuff I've made over the years.

Current project

I'm working on a game inspired by Into the Breach, but it's on a hexagonal grid and has multiplayer. The source is here.

Right now, I'm making the multiplayer work, and game feature development will resume once it works to my satisfaction. I've implemented a lobby system and player movement works correctly, but much more remains to be done.

My first game

I played a lot of Ori and the Will of the Wisps and wanted to make a fast paced platformer game. I made it in Unity, before I really knew how git and GitHub worked, so unfortunately all I could dig up as of the making of this page was a short demo video and some old scripts. All the assets are taken from itch.io; I did not make any of them.

The objective is to hit all the buttons and then the flag as fast as possible.

I also wanted to include a swinging grappling hook-type ability for the player, but that failed to work so completely that it does not feature in the video.

Some game jam stuff

My uni's computer science society has run a couple of game jams. I participated in both of them, the first with a group and the second solo.

This first jam was a little unconventional, taking place over two weeks. We produced a puzzle game in which you had to use various potions to get to the end of the level. I also recorded, voiced and edited this video showcasing it.

I was responsible for the majority of the game design (feature planning and design, level design) and programmed the player character. I was not responsible for the art, sounds or particle system on display.

The second game jam, I was in placement year and so competed solo. It also took place over a more standard timeline of 48 hours, in which I pretty much did a remake of my first game in Godot, complete with asset reuse.

It's got more features, like actual enemies, health, and checkpoint flags, but is a lot less polished and a good deal harder. I gave the grappling hook a second crack, though, and it kinda worked but was still very janky.

Uni coursework

A couple of the courseworks I've done as a part of my degree merit mentioning here. I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to show here, so I'm sticking to words.

  • First year: Three other people and I created a recreation of the Tron game running on two interconnected Ardunio boards, a bunch of buttons and an LED matrix. I programmed the entire core loop of the game.
  • Second year: Led the development of a seating planner app in a group of nine people over an academic year. I wrote around a quarter of the code and also did the project management legwork of assigning roles, delegating tasks, deadlines and milestones, among other things.
